Discussions About Death and Dying

For anyone who is death curious.

Western Culture has not given us real role models for how to embrace death and dying. Yet, it is something that we will all do 100% successfully. So, let’s talk about it.

Having rich, open, and honest discussions about death, dying, the afterworld, our wishes, varying beliefs, grief, and loss are just a few of the things that are very worthy of discussion. The more we discuss our concerns, thoughts and feelings, the easier it is to embrace the concept.

Talking about death is not morbid. Nor will it instantly summon the grim reaper to knock on your door any more than buying a lottery ticket will instantly win you millions of dollars. We will not all win millions of dollars. But we will all die. Why not be prepared?

Come join us to talk about your deepest questions, concerns, and experiences. Each month there will be 3 topics from which to choose- ones brought in by participants and ones pre-determined. The conversations will be group discussions and will be a safe place to share experiences, ask questions, and learn. All are welcome.

Meetings will be held the fourth Thursdays of the month, at Peace of the Planet (12 Fern Way, Madbury, NH)

Kindly RSVP so we can create a comfortable space for you.

There is no fee required. Light refreshments will be served.

Sacred Death Care: Accepting a New Identity After a Loss

Sacred Death Care: Accepting a New Identity After a Loss

With every ending, there is a new beginning. Whether that is a physical loss or accepting a new reality that lies ahead, mourning loss and embracing the new normal is hard.

A wife who loses a husband becomes a widow. A child who loses their parents becomes an orphan. A person who loses their best friend, a nameless loss, becomes a person grieving their dear friend. But how do we gracefully transition from one identity to another? How do we function when we have gone from a world hat is known and has order into one that includes death, places and feelings we’ve never felt and a feeling of chaos?

In this session we will focus our discussions on understanding the “Archetypal Cycle of Initiation” where we go from ordinary life, to one where we acknowledge the complete death of ‘what was’. And how to gently re-enter a meaningful life as a changed.

Come prepared to discuss your own experiences with loss and learn from others.

Refreshments will be served.

Sacred Death Care Wisdom: The First's and Last's: Creating Ways to Gracefully Endure Holidays and Special Occasions

Under perfect circumstances holidays & special occasions can be challenging. The anticipation of losing a loved one or facing a holiday after a recent loss are both challenging in their own unique ways, which can add additional angst to a time that is supposed to be filled with family traditions, peace, and joy.

Putting emphasis on practices that make us feel as though the outside action is as important and fully honors and recognizes the intensity that we feel on the inside is a way to honor the soul. We will discuss various rituals as to how to honor the “last’s” with your loved one and the “first’s” without them during the holiday seasons.

Light Refreshments will be offered.

Sacred Death Care: Living with the Truth of a Terminal Diagnosis

Whether it is you, a beloved family member, or a dear friend, learning of a terminal diagnosis carries an unimaginable weight. Dreams change and priorities shift, as you step into an unknown phase of life; the final chapter.

How does one even begin to plan or become comfortable with what happens in the time that remains? We ask the hard questions. We face the truth head on. And we plan for what is important, while gradually releasing our grip on what has been, to pour our energy into the meaningful choices that lay before us.

Knowing, understanding, and facing the truth of the realities that lie ahead help to make peace with what we can and can’t change, the decisions we will have to make, and perhaps even set an example of strength and grace in dying that we want to model for our loved ones. "If we meet death with intention, curiosity, open-heartedness, and support, death can be a profound opportunity for living, growth and beauty.” (-Sarah Kerr, founder of the Center for Sacred Deathcare)

We will cover the importance of asking the hard questions, naming what is true and allowing time to settle into that, creating supportive rituals, and discussing the support structure for you or your loved one during this challenging time and how that can be most effective (concentric circles)

Refreshments will be served.
